THE OJA STORY
The Ojah Scholarship Foundation (OSF) was established on the belief that education has the power to transform lives and generations. Named in honour of Oja, a woman from Oginibo, Delta State, Nigeria, who championed education despite having no formal schooling herself, the Foundation reflects her enduring legacy. OSF is also inspired by the generosity of Mr. John Ellinger, an American Peace Corps volunteer whose financial support enabled Oja’s son, Foghi, to pursue a university education in the 1960s. This life-changing act of kindness created opportunities that continue to resonate across generations. Founded by two individuals raised in the Niger Delta, OSF represents their shared commitment to educational access, poverty alleviation and community development. Through STEM scholarships, mentorship and professional development opportunities, the Foundation invests in talented young people facing financial barriers, empowering them to build sustainable futures and contribute meaningfully to society. OSF honours the Niger Delta by extending the transformative gift of education to its future generations. The Ojah Scholarship Foundation is a private, nonprofit organisation established in Nigeria and registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
OSF was born from a simple truth we now personally: when someone opens a door to education, the impact rarely stops with one person. It moves through families, communities and the lives that follow.
